We cater for children aged 2-5 years and our 3-5 years children can access our excellent Nature Kindergarten (Forest School).
We are situated within Blairtummock House & Glasgow Kelvin College, 20 Baldinnie Road G34 9HZ with good local transport links, easy access to both the M8 and M74 motorway links and a short walk from Glasgow Fort.
Rising Stars Blairtummock House Vision is to value and respect children, carers and families and recognise that they have a right to have their opinions heard, valued and acted upon. We recognise all children as individuals with differing needs, we provide a relaxed fun learning environment. We aim to create a positive ethos, provide a safe, secure environment that is full of opportunities for children to explore, create and follow their own particular interests. Make learning fun, offer inclusive learning opportunities for all through a responsive curriculum which embraces outdoor learning including our forest school programme.
Offer learning opportunities for all children which will develop each child’s individual skills adhering to Pre Birth to 3, Curriculum for Excellence, My World Outdoors and Space to Grow documents.
Our open door policy ensures parent/carers have access to visiting our establishment at any time of the day. We continually ask for feedback from parent/carers on all aspects of nursery life to ensure good practice and that any areas requiring development are addressed.
Through our parent/carers meetings/workshops we encourage participation and maximum involvement.
We have an extensive outdoor learning space and access to two local forest sites where children who utilise a nature kindergarten space spend six hours of their day.
2-3 Years Room
We cater for 12 children in this area with a ratio of 1:5. The staff work from the Pre-Birth- Three curriculum. We have a separate changing area, separate children’s toilets, wet room for our outdoor clothes and access from the room into our garden.
3-5 Years Room
We cater for 30 children with a ratio of 1:8. The staff work from the Curriculum for Excellence document providing children with structured activities, group time, expressive arts, physical play, mathematical and literacy experiences while encouraging child lead learning.
Our extensive outdoor play area allows children to access the curriculum both indoors and out. 6 of the 30 children attend nature kindergarten daily with our Forest Leader Alyson Johnson and 2 other forest training staff.
Both rooms and nature kindergarten operate a key-worker system to encourage parent/carer and staff engagement. Rising Stars Blairtummock House, Manager is Anne McKay who has 26 years childcare experience & holds an HNC, LEVEL 4 CCLD, PDA Level 9 Childhood Practice, Level 3 Forest School Leader Qualification and is also the Child Protection Co-Ordinator for Rising Stars & Nicola McDonald who has 18 years childcare experience & hold HNC, LEVEL 4 CCLD, PDA Level 9 Childhood Practice, Level 3 Forest School Leader Qualification.
Alyson Johnston our Senior Childcare Worker & Forest Leader has 16 years childcare experience & holds SVQ Level 2 & 3 CCLD, PDA Level 8 & Level 3 Forest School Leader Qualification.
All staff have either HNC, SVQ 3 in childcare and education with between 3 and 17 years’ experience. We also provide a workplace for Modern Apprentice students who assist our staff while working towards their qualification. Staff receive regular training to keep them up to date and further their existing knowledge on policies, procedures and regulations. All staff are enhanced disclosed by the PVG scheme.
Rising Stars Blairtummock House promotes healthy eating through our healthy eating policy. All lunches and snacks are prepared freshly on the premises by our in-house cook.
We charge for 50 weeks per year.
